Apple Unveils HomeView: A New AI-Powered Smart Display for Entertainment and Home Control

Apple has introduced Apple HomeView, a new smart home display designed to bring entertainment, communication and home management together in one device. Powered by Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, the product represents Apple’s latest effort to make its smart home ecosystem more intelligent, personalised and convenient.

Announced on October 14, 2026, HomeView features a 7-inch Liquid Retina display, an advanced audio system, video calling capabilities and integrated smart home controls. The device is designed to serve as a shared household display while providing personalised experiences for individual family members.

With HomeView, Apple is positioning the home as another environment where its artificial intelligence technology can play a central role in everyday activities.

Apple HomeView Combines AI and Smart Home Technology

At the centre of HomeView is Siri AI, Apple’s enhanced digital assistant powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence.

The system is designed to support more natural conversations, answer questions, provide contextual information and help users complete everyday tasks. When paired with a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, Siri AI can also draw on personal context from applications such as Messages and Calendar to deliver more relevant responses.

For example, users can ask questions, retrieve useful information or access relevant personal details without necessarily picking up their phones. Conversations started on HomeView can also continue across compatible Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch and Apple Vision Pro.

Apple says users can benefit from Siri AI’s general knowledge and improved conversational abilities even without an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad, although some personalised features require a compatible device.

This integration reflects Apple’s broader strategy of making AI available across its hardware ecosystem rather than limiting it to smartphones and computers.

A Personalised Experience for Every Family Member

One of HomeView’s key features is its ability to recognise up to six people through facial recognition and provide individualised experiences.

Each recognised user can access a personalised home screen with their own apps and widgets. The device can also display personal information from supported applications, including Messages, FaceTime, Calendar, Reminders and Find My, subject to Apple’s compatibility and security requirements.

This approach is intended to solve a common challenge with shared smart displays: allowing multiple people to use one device without mixing their private information.

Families can still enjoy shared features, including photo albums and music, while individual users receive a more tailored experience.

HomeView also includes customisable display styles that can show photos, useful information and animations. Apple highlights features such as the Photos display, interactive Flow artwork and animated Snoopy experiences.

Together, these features are designed to make the device useful throughout the day while allowing it to blend into different rooms and household routines.

Entertainment and Audio Take Centre Stage

Beyond artificial intelligence, Apple has equipped HomeView with features intended to make it a central entertainment device.

Its 7-inch Liquid Retina display is paired with a custom-engineered sound system featuring two full-range drivers, a down-firing woofer and two force-cancelling passive radiators. Apple says computational audio technology helps optimise sound performance at different volume levels.

Users can access supported entertainment experiences through Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple News, Apple TV and compatible third-party audio and video applications, although availability and compatibility vary by service.

The device also supports Handoff, allowing users to transfer supported audio playback from an iPhone by bringing the phone close to the display.

Households with multiple compatible HomeView, HomePod or AirPlay-enabled speakers can also configure multiroom audio to play music throughout different areas of the home.

These features give HomeView a role beyond that of a conventional smart home controller, combining a visual interface with music, audio and supported video experiences.

FaceTime, Messages and Everyday Convenience

Apple is also positioning HomeView as a communication hub for families.

The device supports FaceTime video calls, with Centre Stage helping keep participants framed during conversations. Users can respond to Messages through voice input or the onscreen keyboard.

Its Intercom feature allows household members to broadcast messages to individual rooms or throughout the home using compatible HomeView and HomePod devices, as well as supported personal Apple devices.

The display is also designed to assist with everyday activities. In the kitchen, for instance, users can access recipes, follow step-by-step cooking instructions, manage timers and track ingredients using supported features.

Find My integration provides access to location information shared by loved ones and can help users locate compatible Apple devices and personal items.

These capabilities illustrate Apple’s intention to make HomeView a practical part of daily household routines rather than simply another screen for entertainment.

Apple HomeView Becomes a Smart Home Control Centre

HomeView’s smart home capabilities are among its most significant features.

Users can control compatible accessories through the touchscreen or Siri AI, including adjusting lights, viewing camera feeds, locking doors and closing blinds.

Its Home Camera display can show up to nine video feeds simultaneously, allowing users to monitor compatible cameras around their property.

With supported cameras and an eligible iCloud+ subscription, the system can also provide security-related notifications involving people, familiar faces, pets, packages and vehicles. HomeKit Secure Video features include video descriptions that help users understand recorded activity without having to watch an entire clip.

Apple says HomeView can also detect the sound of smoke or carbon monoxide alarms and send alerts to compatible iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch devices.

The device works with existing Works with Apple Home and Matter-compatible accessories, as well as Apple’s newly announced Home Collection of smart home products.

That collection includes cameras, thermostats, temperature sensors and a smart lock developed in collaboration with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.

The combination could make HomeView a central interface for managing household security, lighting, temperature and other connected devices.

Privacy and Security Remain Central to Apple’s Strategy

As smart displays become more personalised, the amount of household information they can access becomes an important consideration.

Apple says HomeView was designed with privacy and security at its core. Its A18 chip includes Secure Exclaves, isolated processing environments intended to protect sensitive camera and microphone data from the rest of the system.

The company also says personal information in applications such as Messages and Calendar is only surfaced when the enrolled user is recognised and their paired iPhone or iPad is present and has been recently unlocked.

Siri requests can be processed on the device or through Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure. Apple states that data processed through Private Cloud Compute is not stored or made accessible to the company.

These protections are particularly relevant for a product designed to be placed in shared spaces such as kitchens, living rooms and hallways.

However, as with any connected smart home product, users should review the permissions, subscriptions and device compatibility requirements associated with the features they intend to use.

Apple HomeView Price and Availability

Apple has announced HomeView in four colours: silver, starlight, rose pink and space grey. A separate wall-mounted model will be available in space grey and silver.

In Australia, both models are priced at A$449, including GST. Pre-orders opened on October 14, 2026, with availability scheduled to begin on November 13.

The wall-mounted model supports purpose-built mounting accessories from Schneider Home, which are sold separately.

Apple has also announced availability in Canada, India, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Siri AI on HomeView is initially available in English in these markets, as well as Singapore and South Africa. The product will not initially be sold in the European Union because Siri AI is not currently available in iOS there.

Some features require compatible Apple devices, eligible subscriptions or supported third-party accessories. Consequently, buyers should check the requirements for specific services before purchasing the device.

What Apple HomeView Means for the Smart Home Market

HomeView places Apple in a competitive market where smart displays and voice-controlled assistants are already established products.

Its approach differs from a conventional smart speaker by combining a touchscreen, personalised information, video calls, entertainment and home automation in one device.

The product also reflects the growing importance of AI in the smart home industry. Rather than relying exclusively on simple voice commands, manufacturers are increasingly exploring assistants that can understand context and help users complete more complex tasks.

For Apple, the challenge will be turning these capabilities into a reliable experience that works naturally for multiple household members.

The company’s emphasis on privacy may appeal to users who want personalised AI services without giving up control over sensitive information. However, the device’s overall value will depend on its real-world performance, compatibility with existing accessories and the usefulness of Siri AI in everyday situations.

Conclusion

Apple HomeView represents a significant expansion of Apple’s vision for an intelligent, connected home. By combining Siri AI, a high-quality display, entertainment features, video communication and smart home controls, the company is attempting to make one device useful across a wide range of household activities.

Its ability to recognise multiple users and tailor information to individual needs could distinguish it from more traditional smart displays. Meanwhile, integration with Apple Home and Matter-compatible accessories gives it the potential to serve as a central point for managing connected devices.

The real test will be whether HomeView delivers a sufficiently useful and seamless experience to justify its price and fit naturally into people’s homes.

As Apple continues to expand its artificial intelligence capabilities, HomeView offers an early indication of how the company wants AI to move beyond personal devices and become part of everyday domestic life.
