Tesla Secures $30 Billion in New Credit Lines to Scale Cybercab, Optimus, and Semi
The automaker is stockpiling financial firepower as it prepares to bring three major new products to market
A Massive Financial Boost
Tesla has secured $30 billion in fresh credit lines that it could use to help scale the new products it is currently working on: the Cybercab robotaxi, the Optimus robot, and the Tesla Semi.
The company announced Tuesday that Citibank has agreed to a $20 billion three year delayed draw term loan facility. Wells Fargo also signed an $8 billion five year revolving credit facility, along with a $2 billion revolving credit facility with a 364 day term.
No Immediate Plans to Draw
Tesla said in a regulatory filing that it does not plan to draw on these loan facilities this year. The company has already projected that it will spend at least $25 billion on capital expenditures for 2026.
Tesla finished the second quarter of this year with around $9 billion in debt and a pile of cash and investments north of $40 billion. The new credit lines add significant flexibility to an already strong balance sheet.
Building for Three New Products
All three of these new products have required new manufacturing lines. In the case of the Semi and the Optimus robot, the company has taken the approach of building out new dedicated factories.
The credit facilities give Tesla room to accelerate production as it moves these products from development toward commercial scale.
What This Means
The move signals that Tesla is preparing for an aggressive expansion phase. While the company does not need the money today, having $30 billion in committed credit gives it the ability to move quickly as the Cybercab, Optimus, and Semi programs ramp up.
For investors and industry watchers, the announcement is a clear statement of intent: Tesla is betting big on a future that extends well beyond its current vehicle lineup.
